REFLECTIONS AWARDS CEREMONY RESCHEDULED
The PTA meeting/Reflections Awards ceremony has been rescheduled for March 31, 2010 in the RBMS Library. The PTA meeting will be from 7:00 pm to 7:30 pm and the Reflections Awards ceremony will immediately follow. Please come and support our Reflections winners. Hope to see you there!

Student Transfers and Moratoria Information
Due to projected enrollment size for the 2010-2011 school year, Running Brushy Middle School has been closed to new transfers, except for siblings of students who currently attend Running Brushy Middle School and who will attend Running Brushy Middle School next year. Please be aware that if your student is not zoned to this campus or does not already attend this campus on an approved transfer, that campus is closed and will not be accepting additional transfer students for the following school year, 2010-2011.
Please note that if your child(ren) attends Running Brushy Middle School as a current transfer student, you will need to complete a transfer form for the 2010-2011 school year by the April 8 priority date, should you wish the student(s) to remain at the campus. Transfer requests are approved on an annual basis only, and must be requested each school year.

Connecting U Community Conference Scheduled for April 16
Leander ISD, in partnership with Cedar Park Regional Medical Center and Hill Country Bible Church, is hosting the second annual Connecting U Community Conference on Friday, April 16, 2010, from 8:15 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Hill Country Bible Church, off RR 620 ( Map to Church). The Connecting U conference is open to anyone interested in attending, including parents, community members, business owners, community leaders, volunteers, etc… The conference will include a full day of fun and interesting sessions that will help you connect with your child, your family and your community. A sampling of session topics include Childhood Nutrition, Dealing with Stress, True Colors, Parenting Teens with Love & Logic, Boosting Your Child's Success with the 40 Developmental Assets, The Importance of Birth Order and Today’s Drug Trends, just to name a few. If you are interested in attending Connecting U, please pre-register. Conference participants will have an opportunity to pre-register and pay online at a cost of only $8, which includes a continental breakfast, boxed lunch and conference materials. YEARBOOKS ON SALE NOW!
Yearbooks are on sale and order forms are located in the front office. The cost is $30.00. Please note that December 15, 2009 was the last day to include a name plate with your order. RBMS is celebrating 10 years this year and our yearbook will be full of great color pictures and wonderful memories! Yearbooks will be delivered at the last dance of the school year.

AUSTIN LIFEGUARD
Austin Lifeguard, Human Sexuality Parent Meeting for Middle School Parents will be held on Monday, April 19, 2010, 7 PM at Henry Middle School Library. Austin Lifeguard presents human sexuality curriculum through presentations to our students in grades 7-9. Parent notification about the presentations usually go out two weeks in advance. ENGINEERING SUMMER PROGRAM FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL GIRLS
The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) at The University of Texas at Austin is now accepting applications for its summer program for middle school girls: "Careers in Engineering for Women". This residential program is designed to introduce students to engineering. The long-term goal of CEW is to increase the representation of women in the field of engineering. During this unique, interactive and fun weeklong experience, CEW participants will put their math and science skills to practical use.
Careers in Engineering for Women:
. Residential summer camp for girls currently in 6th or 7th grade
. Weeklong session held June 13-19, 2010 on UT Austin campus
. Forty exceptional middle school students will be accepted to attend.
During CEW, participants will explore different aspects of engineering through hands-on activities and challenges. The girls will work in teams to design, construct, and implement solutions to exciting engineering problems. Students will also interact with industry personnel, Cockrell School of Engineering faculty, and energetic UT Austin engineering students.

Student Success Initiative for 8th Graders
Due to the guidelines of No Child Left Behind and the Student Success Initiative, Texas 8th graders are required to meet or exceed the passing standard for 8th gr TAKS Math and Reading to be promoted to 9th grade.
Please read through the attached brochure with tips on how to help your child prepare for the requirements of 8th grade. If you have questions about what RBMS is doing to ensure your child receives the necessary reading and math assistance, please contact his/her math and language arts teachers at 570-3300.

EXAMINATION FOR ACCELERATION
Examination for Acceleration allows students, who without direct instruction have already mastered all content and skills in a particular grade level or course, to advance to the next level or course. These exams are available at no cost to eligible students who test during the district's testing periods. For more information and a schedule of testing dates, please click the link below.

You can easily access the RBMS Academic Team websites from the Campus Staff Page.
You can access the teacher voice mail system without going through the main Running Brushy Middle School switchboard. Just call 434-7098 and follow the prompts.
Within two (2) days of returning from an absence, a student should provide a note, signed by the parent, guardian, or doctor that describes the reason for the absence. Students returning from an absence without a written statement from their parent or doctor will be given an unexcused absence.
Checks written to any LISD organization, including student fundraisers and RBMS, must have a driver's license number and valid phone number on the check. Your cooperation will be greatly appreciated!
