WANT TO SAVE MONEY?
Would you like to know how to help your student open a savings account and learn the importance of saving money? The Green Apple program of A-Plus Federal Credit Union will be on our campus with some important information for parents and students on saving money! RBMS Celebrates 10 Year Anniversary!
This school year, RBMS celebrates our 10 year anniversary! To commemorate this special occasion, our very own Mrs. Susie Former made a quilt that consists of t-shirts from each organization at RBMS for the past 10 years. Congratulations RBMS!



SPINAL SCREENINGS FOR 8TH GRADERS
All 8th graders will undergo State Mandated Spinal Screenings on Monday, February 15, 2010. All screenings will be private and any student requiring a follow up physician's visit will be notified by mail. Contact our school nurse for any questions or concerns at 570-3307.



INVITATION FOR 8TH GRADE STUDENTS & PARENTS
LHS will be hosting a second Pride Night for parents and students who were not able to attend the previous Pride Night. LHS Pride Night will be held Thursday, February 11th in the PAC from 6:00 PM-7:30 PM. Information on course requirements, electives, clubs, AP and IB programs and 4 year graduation plans will be available. We will also be serving hot dogs and lemonade. Hope to see you there!
YEARBOOKS ON SALE NOW!
Yearbooks are on sale and order forms are located in the front office. The cost is $30.00. Please note that December 15, 2009 was the last day to include a name plate with your order. RBMS is celebrating 10 years this year and our yearbook will be full of great color pictures and wonderful memories! Yearbooks will be delivered at the last dance of the school year. (The introductory offer of $27.00 is no longer in effect. As of December 1, 2009, yearbooks are $30.00. Our yellow order forms had a misprint on them and are no longer valid.)


RBMS SUPPORTS AFRICAN LIBRARY PROJECT
RBMS is helping students in Swaziland, South Africa by holding a book drive. The book drive will benefit students in 4th through 8th grades through the African Library Project. All books must be in paperback form. Send new or gently used paperback books, textbooks, dictionaries, encyclopedias, atlases (post 1990) to the drop box in the main hallway at RBMS now through March 1, 2010. You may learn more about this project by visiting www.africanlibraryproject.org. Please help wipe out illiteracy in Swaziland with your donation and thank you!

AUSTIN LIFEGUARD
Austin Lifeguard, Human Sexuality Parent Meeting for Middle School Parents will be held on Monday, April 19, 2010, 7 PM at Henry Middle School Library. Austin Lifeguard presents human sexuality curriculum through presentations to our students in grades 7-9. Parent notification about the presentations usually go out two weeks in advance. ENGINEERING SUMMER PROGRAM FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL GIRLS
The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) at The University of Texas at Austin is now accepting applications for its summer program for middle school girls: "Careers in Engineering for Women". This residential program is designed to introduce students to engineering. The long-term goal of CEW is to increase the representation of women in the field of engineering. During this unique, interactive and fun weeklong experience, CEW participants will put their math and science skills to practical use.
Careers in Engineering for Women:
. Residential summer camp for girls currently in 6th or 7th grade
. Weeklong session held June 13-19, 2010 on UT Austin campus
. Forty exceptional middle school students will be accepted to attend.
During CEW, participants will explore different aspects of engineering through hands-on activities and challenges. The girls will work in teams to design, construct, and implement solutions to exciting engineering problems. Students will also interact with industry personnel, Cockrell School of Engineering faculty, and energetic UT Austin engineering students.

Student Success Initiative for 8th Graders
Due to the guidelines of No Child Left Behind and the Student Success Initiative, Texas 8th graders are required to meet or exceed the passing standard for 8th gr TAKS Math and Reading to be promoted to 9th grade.

Please read through the attached brochure with tips on how to help your child prepare for the requirements of 8th grade. If you have questions about what RBMS is doing to ensure your child receives the necessary reading and math assistance, please contact his/her math and language arts teachers at 570-3300.

The CATCH middle school program is a resource for bringing schools, families and communities together to work toward creating a healthy school environment. CATCH is a coordinated program designed to promote the importance of physical activity and healthy food choices in school and at home.

  • You can easily access the RBMS Academic Team websites from the Campus Staff Page.

  • You can access the teacher voice mail system without going through the main Running Brushy Middle School switchboard. Just call 434-7098 and follow the prompts.

  • Within two (2) days of returning from an absence, a student should provide a note, signed by the parent, guardian, or doctor that describes the reason for the absence. Students returning from an absence without a written statement from their parent or doctor will be given an unexcused absence.

  • Checks written to any LISD organization, including student fundraisers and RBMS, must have a driver's license number and valid phone number on the check. Your cooperation will be greatly appreciated!
